Metal purls have a unique, shimmering quality to create a seemingly endless array of dynamic effects in your stitching, and over the course of the month we will go from the foundations of techniques to explore lots of creative ideas with metal purls and beads, learning methods of experimentation and drawing tools to unlock your ideas alongside providing lots of creative inspiration.
With a combination of video exercises to watch and explore in your own time, live Zoom sessions for feedback and questions, and a group to share with other stitchers as your work evolves, this introductory course gives you a grounding in creative metal purls, and opens up the beautiful contemporary potential for exploring, shine, texture and shape in your work.
Split over two modules, we cover the ‘how to’s’ of chipping and cut work, and the quirks of handling with metal purls, and use this as a jumping off point to explore the creative possibilities of these beautiful goldwork materials, and how to use drawing as a tool to further your creativity and enhance your stitching and ideas.
- Materials -
This workshop is designed with traditional goldwork metal purls in mind, and their very particular movement, sculptural qualities and the way they play with light. You are also welcome to use your own beads - metallic or other - and create your own unique effects with what you have.
- TIme Commitment -
2 to 102 hours a week! This open ended, creative course is designed to fit around your life, with two weeks per module to really give you time to explore and develop at you own pace and there is no ‘right’ way or expected outcome! Live sessions are recorded and available to watch in your own time. You will have access to the full course content for one year from the course start date, so you can re-visit as you wish.
- Stitch experience -
All levels of stitch experience welcome! From beginner to full blown stitch enthusiast, this course is designed so you can explore it at own level and pace - whether you are discovering goldwork for the very first time, or looking to bring a new perspective to an existing practice.
- Feedback -
Community, sharing ideas and getting feedback are such an important part of any creative journey, and you can post your work in the FLOW group at any point during course to share with Hanny and the other stitchers. The two live Zoom sessions are a space to come together to ask questions about the course videos, share progress, and stitch along if you wish.
